While each supervisory relationship is unique, effective supervision consistently serves three overarching objectives:

   Supervision acts as a safeguard for clients by ensuring that practitioners work ethically, competently, and with appropriate self-awareness.

   • It offers a second set of eyes on the practitioner's clinical decisions and emotional involvement.

As an IEMT supervisor, I am not just overseeing someone’s technical work.
I am safeguarding their clients, their growth, and the ethical standards of the entire field.
I am entrusted with the ethical safety of (at least) two lives — the supervisee and their client — even when neither explicitly asks for it.

• These principles are based on the IEMT Ethics code and adapted for use across international contexts.

• Where legal or regulatory differences exist, supervisors are expected to take personal responsibility for learning and applying the laws relevant in their own country or region.
